Jacksonville student arrested after bringing gun on campus, school says

Duval County Public Schools confirmed that a student was arrested Friday after Mandarin High School officials found the student in possession of a firearm on campus.

The school said the student will face criminal charges and possible expulsion.

No students or staff were harmed during the incident, officials said.

"While we are very pleased with the responsiveness and cooperation of our students, staff and security teams, we request your parental support," said Principal Dr. Richardson to parents via robocall. "Please talk with your children about the serious consequences of bringing a firearm or weapon on campus."

Earlier in the school year, another Mandarin High School student self-reported having a gun on campus.
