JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Congratulations, coach! Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Doug Pederson has been named the AFC’s Coach of the Year, according to Jaguars Senior Writer John Oehser.
The 101 Awards announced Tuesday that Pederson would be the 2022 AFC Coach of the Year.
Oehser said each full season since the 1970 AFL-NFL merger, the 101 Awards have honored the top players and coaches of the year, making it the nation’s longest-running awards event dedicated exclusively to the National Football League.
The honorees for the 2022 season will be presented with their awards at the 53rd Annual 101 Awards Gala, set to take place Saturday, February 25, 2023 at the Westin Crown Center Hotel in Kansas City.
In Pederson’s first year as the Jaguars’ head coach, he led quite a turnaround for a team that finished with the worst record in the NFL in 2020 and 2021. Here’s a list of his accomplishments:
- Finished the regular season with a 9-8 record.
- Led the team to its first AFC South title in 5 years.
- A playoff win over the Los Angeles Chargers in the Wild Card round.
- An appearance in an AFC Divisional Playoff that culminated with a loss to the Kansas City Chiefs on Saturday.
