JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Jaguars are back home this weekend after four weeks of traveling across the country and overseas, and work on the stadium of the future kept moving while they were gone.
Jaguars President Mark Lamping says the past four weeks have been critically important to the stadium construction process. The biggest change is the installation of a huge steel truss in the north end zone.
“It took 72 hours to lift it into place. That piece of steel on its own weighed a million pounds,” Lamping said.
Lamping says fans may notice there is even more steel above their heads near the stadium’s eventual roofline, and a lot more concrete poured on the ground.
“The South End Zone Club, that concrete has been poured,” Lamping said. “Most of the expanded areas of the main concourse have been completed. They’re not open yet, but most of the concrete has been poured.”
Several utility milestones were also accomplished over the last 30 days.
“The heart of the electrical system on the southwest side of the stadium has been completed,” Lamping said. He added that the Southwest Primary Electrical Room switchgear has been delivered and is set in place.
Most importantly for fans going to the game this weekend, Lamping says they will not have any changes in their experience.
“The entrance to the stadium will remain the same. We’ve cleaned some things up inside the stadium. You know, we had some issues the first game in terms of some overcrowding in the main concourse. We’ve made some modifications there to help clean that up,” Lamping said.
After this weekend’s game, the Jaguars will not play at home for another three weeks, which Lamping says will allow for more work to be done on the stadium.
The Jaguars take on the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday at 1 p.m.
