Jordan Davis summer camp comes to a close, legacy continues on

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The mother of Jordan Davis, Lucille McBath, closed out the annual Jordan Davis summer camp today.

Davis was shot and killed after an argument about music at Southside gas station in 2012—his killer Michael Dunn was sentenced to life plus 90 years for his death.

Mcbath says the Jordan Davis summer camp is a big part of her son's legacy.

"The promise that I had for Jordan I see in every one of these young men," said McBath.

This summer about 50 kids learned about anatomy, art and athletics and how to have confidence despite all the pressure young men face.

"We are sowing good seed into good soil and so of course it's going to thrive because their lives matter. The lives of the these young black men do matter," said McBath.

The Valor Academy of leadership hosts the summer camp and plans on doubling its numbers next year.

Enrollment for the next summer will begin in March of 2016.
