2 people arrested for murder of teenager on Kings Road near EWC campus, police say

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — April 9, 2020 UPDATE: The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office has announced the arrest of two people allegedly involved in a November 2019 murder of a teenager on Kings Road.

Police said after an investigation, they learned that a robbery occurred that led to the two teenagers being shot. JSO said one of the teens shot, Jairus Smith, 17, was one of two suspects involved in the robbery.

The other suspect arrested has been identified as Vashaun Dailey, 20.

The Sheriff’s Office said Smith was arrested Friday, March 27 and is facing a charge of first-degree murder while committing a felony. Dailey was arrested Wednesday, April 8 and is facing a charge of second-degree murder and armed robbery, according to police.

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said two teens were shot, and one of those teens has died after a shooting in the street on Kings Road Monday.

The shooting happened near Edward Waters College near the Burger King.

JSO said the teens were between the ages of 15 and 18 years old.

The teens were taken to the hospital. One teen died. The other teen has critical injuries.

The Sheriff's Office said it does not have a suspect in custody.

JSO said the shooting happened in the street and one weapon was recovered.
