JSO: Two arrested in 2019 shooting death of pregnant Jacksonville mother

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — It’s been over two years since 19-year-old Iyana McGraw was killed after being shot at an Arlington apartment complex.

Late Tuesday, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office announced it had finally made an arrest.

Two of them.

Action News Jax told you in Oct. 2019 that McGraw was 9-months-pregnant when she was shot multiple times just days from her due date.

Doctors were initially able to save her baby girl, Milan, but the infant tragically died three months later from complications sustained during the shooting.

Gerod Deshea Fields, 28, and George Prince Jr., 29, have both been charged with murder, according to court documents.

In an arrest report obtained by Action News Jax, a witness told police shortly after the shooting that the incident was a result of McGraw’s boyfriend shooting up the apartment of Prince Jr. over a drug feud earlier that day. Police were able to confirm that a shooting did occur prior to the homicide but say it was never reported.

The two apartments were located in the same complex, just .3 miles apart.

Detectives working an unrelated investigation in the same area identified Prince and another man as possible suspects.

The man was taken into custody and interviewed. It was determined he was not linked to the murders, but investigators were able to obtain Prince’s cellphone number which reportedly placed him at the scene of the shooting.

The suspect also told police he was inside the apartment with Prince when it was “shot up” and Prince believed he knew who was responsible.

This is a developing story.
