COLUMBIA COUNTY, Fla. — 6:50 AM, WEDNESDAY: Deputies in Columbia County are searching for a male suspect armed with a pocket knife who fled into the woods along SW Herlong Street in Fort White.
The sheriff’s office contacted the Columbia County Schools transportation office and law enforcement is escorting all school bus routes traveling through the affected area.
The search is focused along SW Herlong between SW Choctaw Avenue and SW Tustenuggee Avenue. Deputies reported the suspect ran eastbound into the woods heading toward SW Old Wire Road. Authorities described the suspect as wearing a dark blue shirt and gray underwear, with no pants.
Law enforcement reported the suspect has experienced a change in mental status and instructed members of the public not to approach him, but to call 911 immediately if he is seen.
