LIST: Here are places in the Jacksonville area, nationwide that are requiring masks again

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommended Tuesday that vaccinated individuals resume wearing masks indoors in areas where transmission is high amid a recent spike seen in COVID-19 cases nationwide.

In light of this guidance, which was issued due to a spike in cases related to the Delta variant, several businesses and entities are reversing course on mask wearing. Action News Jax will update this list as we learn of more local or national businesses or entities go back to requiring masks.

• Effective, Aug. 3, face masks will be required again in Glynn County public buildings: W. Harold Pate Courthouse Annex, Public Works Administration, Fire Administration and Parks and Recreation Offices.
• First Coast YMCA: The organization posted Friday, July 30 on its website, “With the recent surge of COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations on the First Coast, we are now requiring that everyone ages 2 and older wear a mask indoors at the Y. This change in our policy follows newly-released guidance from the CDC and the American Academy of Pediatrics.”
• Starting on Monday, Aug. 2., face masks will be required in Duval, Clay, and Nassau courthouse proceedings and public areas, as COVID-19 case spike.

• Naval Air Station Jacksonville: The NAS Jax Commanding Officer posted on the base’s official Facebook page that as of Wednesday, “masks will be required by everyone, regardless of vaccination/immunization status, in all NAS JAX buildings (individual tenant commands are encouraged do the same). This includes all MWR facilities (unless doing cardio), Galley, Chapel, CDC & CYP, Fleet & Family Support Center, Building 1, all Navy Exchange retail and food service locations, and the Commissary.”

• Naval Station Mayport: The base posted on its official Facebook page that “masks are required in these buildings, regardless of immunization status: Naval Branch Health Clinic, NEX, Commissary, Child and Youth Programs, Housing Office, Personnel Support Detachment (PSD), Galley and Fitness Center, with the exception of cardio equipment.”
• JEA said it has reimplemented its “mask mandate for team members and for customers visiting our Downtown Customer Care Center or other facilities.”

• Target employees will be required to wear masks in high-risk areas.
• Apple is following the guidance of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in requiring masks inside most of its stores in the U.S.
• Walt Disney World in Orlando and Disneyland in Anaheim, Calif. will require masks for guests starting Friday.

The following entities have continued to enforce mask-wearing at their locations, even after the CDC issued its May guidance saying that vaccinated individuals could discontinue wearing masks:

• Flagler Health+
• Mayo Clinic
• Naval Hospital Jacksonville
• Jacksonville International Airport
