Lonzie Barton suffered 2 skull fractures, blunt force trauma to ribs, autopsy says

An autopsy report reveals Lonzie Barton suffered two skull fractures and blunt force trauma to several ribs.

A 12-page report released on Tuesday says a medical examiner was not able to determine the cause or manner of Lonzie's death.

Lonzie was 21 months old when he was reported missing on July 24, 2015.

The main suspect in his disappearance, Ruben Ebron, led investigators to his body in a wooded area off State Road 9B on Jacksonville's Southside on Jan. 11.

Investigators found Lonzie's body partially concealed by several discarded car tires.

Ebron told investigators Lonzie drowned in a bath rub while he and Lonzie's mother Lonna Lauramore-Barton had sex.

A medical examiner performed an autopsy on Lonzie's body on Jan. 13.

Autopsy results revealed Lonzie had two blunt-force fractures to his head and traumatic injuries to eight of his ribs.

His ribs had already begun to heal, according to the report.

Law enforcement who worked on the Lonzie Barton case have said they carry it with them every day.

One investigator, Jacksonville Sheriff's Office Sgt. Dan Janson, said he believes Ebron led officers to Lonzie's body to satisfy himself.

“I think the whole ... let me take you to the body, was for him. It wasn’t for us that was the attention back on him once more," he said in July.

Ebron pleaded guilty to aggravated manslaughter in Lonzie's death and was sentenced to 20 years in prison.

Lonzie's mom was sentenced to five years in prison for child neglect and lying to police in connection with Lonzie's death.
