JACKSONVILLE, FL. — A vehicle accident with life-threatening injuries was reported at Smyrna St & Edgewood Ave West at 3:15 p.m. Sunday.
The vehicles involved were a pickup truck and an SUV.
For reasons unknown at this time, the pickup truck veered off the roadway and struck a concrete utility pole, knocking out the traffic signal. The pickup truck then crashed into the SUV.
The driver of the pickup truck who was alone in the vehicle was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.
There were no reported injuries to the three occupants of the SUV.
For several hours, Edgewood Ave. W. was blocked in both directions between Lem Turner Rd. and Tallahassee St., asking drivers in the area to utilize Palmdale St. and Rowe Ave. as detours around the scene.
Traffic Homicide detectives were on the scene conducting their preliminary investigation.
