Man arrested for murder after fatal shooting at Clanzel Brown Park in Jacksonville

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A 22-year-old man is in custody following a fatal shooting Wednesday evening at Clanzel Brown Park in Moncrief, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office announced Thursday.

Police arrested Jayden King on a murder charge in connection with the death of 33-year-old Charles Johnson Jr.

JSO said its District 5 Patrol officers responded to the park just before 6 p.m. Wednesday after receiving multiple reports of a shooting.

Upon arrival, officers found Johnson suffering from a gunshot wound. He was taken to a local hospital, where he died from his injuries, police said.

Patrol officers who arrived at the scene spoke with witnesses, who identified King as the gunman. Officers located and took King into custody a short time later less than four miles from the park.

King was arrested on a murder charge just before midnight, JSO said. He is being held in the Duval County Jail on no bond.
