Man sentenced in 2020 murder of Putnam County teenager

STARKE, Fla. — A man convicted in the death of a Putnam County teenager learned his fate last week.

On Feb. 24, Marcus Whitfield was found guilty of second-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder in the Jul. 2020 shooting death of 19-year-old Blake Williams.

Williams was found shot to death on Old Lawtey Road in Starke. According to the Starke Police Department, evidence collected at the scene tied Whitfield to the crime, and a warrant was obtained for his arrest three days after the murder.

Whitfield was sentenced to life in prison plus 30 years.

In an official statement, the police department said, “The officers and investigators of the Starke Police Department worked closely with the State Attorney’s Office in this case and are happy that they were able to achieve justice in a tragic case that resulted in the senseless taking of a young life.”
