• Man shot, dies after found in backseat of car during traffic stop in Jacksonville

    JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - A man is dead after police with the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office found him suffering from a gunshot wound in the back of a car during a traffic stop.

    According to police, Tuesday at approximately 11:45 p.m., ShotSpotter, a gunshot detector system, alerted JSO about a possible shooting in the 3600 block of Effee Street.

    JSO said their officers quickly responded to the area and performed a traffic stop on a white, four-door car seen leaving the area.

    Inside the car, police said they found a 27-year-old man who had been shot. He was taken to UF Health where he was pronounced deceased.

    Police said they have a person who was in the car in custody for questioning.  

    There were several shell casings found in the road. There is no suspect information at this time, according to police.Download WJAX Apps
