Neptune Beach, Fla. — If 2020 was the year the music died, then 2021 is shaping up to be the year it was reborn.
After COVID-19 brought the global live music industry to a crashing halt, performers are eager to get back to work.
But for Jacksonville musicians rocking out at the Beaches, perhaps watch the volume--it landed a restaurant manager in jail.
On March 20 around 11 a.m., officers say a disgruntled homeowner called the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office (JSO) over loud music reverberating from The Local, a Neptune Beach restaurant.
Police say they had cited the on-duty manager, Robert Newell, over “excessively loud” music only the night before and say they warned Newell that he would be arrested if they were called out again.
Newell was arrested and charged with one count of breach of peace. The band was told to stop playing and if they continued, they too would be arrested, according to a report.
