Men targeting Murray Hill in door-to-door scam

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — It's an act that's been going on for days.

“Very, very disappointing,” Richard Kwasniewski said.

Facebook has been buzzing about two white men in their 20s going door-to-door in Murray Hill. According to the posts, the pair travels in a gray Suburban with a bad paint job, no known tags and a clipboard.

“I think the younger crowd might catch on, but the older generation. I don't know,” neighbor Stacy Brumberlo said.

Kwasniewski said his disabled neighbor was approached by the men yesterday. Allegedly, they offered repair services that were too good to be true and wanted something in return.

“He had to dish out so much money first, write them a check or whatever,” he explained.

Action News Jax crime and safety expert Ken Jefferson said this isn't a new scam, but is starting to pop up again. He believes the con guys may have scouted Murray Hill ahead of time and chose it because of its elderly population. Regardless, Jefferson said don't open the door and keep your info to yourself.

“Don’t fall for it and never ever divulge any personal information like your debit card number or credit card number,” he said.

We reached out to JSO about this scam and they tell us that so far, they haven't gotten any official police report. We do know that Meteor Street has been one of the streets targeted.
