Mom facing 4 counts of attempted murder for crashing into tree with kids in car, police say

OCALA, Fla. — The Ocala Police Department said that Calicia Williams is being charged with four counts of attempted murder for allegedly crashing her minivan into a tree after telling her kids to take off their seat belts and hold their hands in the air.

TRENDING:

According to a police report, when paramedics were treating the four children that were inside the minivan, Williams told a police officer that her husband put a hex on her, which caused the crash.

One of the children inside the car told police that Williams told the kids to take off their seatbelts and stretch out their hands, then said, "The devil can't hurt you, he only hurts bad people. You have the light of Jesus in you and only Jesus can cure us." Williams then crashed her car into a palm tree, according to the report.

An officer on the scene said Williams "kept rambling about spells and voodoo" when he tried to get information from her about what led up to the crash.

When the officer asked her if she hit the tree on purpose, she told him she was being followed by a lot of people in cars and was trying to read their tag numbers when she hit the tree.

The Ocala traffic homicide investigator reported that evidence at the scene indicated that Williams steered directly toward the tree she hit and there was no apparent braking before the collision.

Paramedics noted a burn across Williams' neck that appeared to be from her seat belt, indicating she was still wearing her seat belt when the van crashed.

The Ocala Police Department said Williams is still in a hospital and will be sent to Marion County to face the charges.

OPD officials did not release the condition of the children who were inside the car during the crash, saying, "The passengers sustained injuries consistent with an unsecured traffic crash and their current condition is unknown."
