More than a dozen car windows smashed in Jacksonville Beach on same street, same morning

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — More than a dozen car windows were smashed on the same street in Jacksonville Beach.

You’ve been told to lock your car doors, but that doesn’t help much when someone is breaking windows.

“You can’t prevent smashed windows,” said Jemima Fowler, a neighbor.

Police said it happened 17 times on the same street in Jacksonville Beach on the same morning.

“It’s wild, it’s terrible,” said another neighbor.

Investigators said that early Wednesday morning, someone noticed a car being broken into on 1st Street South by two men.

While investigating, police said they noticed the getaway car on Beach Boulevard.

Officers tried stopping the men, but officers said they took off across the Intracoastal Waterway.

About a mile away, police said the men ditched the car near San Pablo Road and Beach Boulevard and took off running.

Police released dogs but couldn’t find the suspects.

Officers said they were in a stolen car from Central Florida.

“Probably just trying to get a quick fix of money, and you know, whatever they can find,” said Fowler.

It’s hard to stop this, but neighbors are trying to avoid tempting the thieves.

“I’ve been a lot more careful about what I’m leaving visible in the car,” Fowler said.

Police said some of the reported stolen items were found in the stolen car.
