JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A motorcyclist was killed overnight Saturday.
The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said the rider was driving eastbound on Loretto Road around 2:40 a.m. when he lost control of his motorcycle, struck a curb, and hit a tree.
The victim, who police say was a man in his 60s, was speeding at the time of the crash.
JSO said the crash marks number 193rd traffic fatality in Duval County this year. It is the 46th motorcycle fatality— nearly twice the number at the same time last year.
Loretto Road was closed from Lake Ridge to Pine Acres for several hours but has since reopened.
