Nassau County family loses almost everything in house fire

A Nassau County family lost almost everything Friday morning when their home burned to the ground.

Plumes of black smoke filled the sky as a family’s home started to burn to the ground.

“Big, black smoke and red, red, you could see orange and red all the way through it,” neighbor Ralph Bunk said.

Bunk said by the time he got to the house, everyone had made it out and was safe, but he said they weren’t able to save their pets.

“The little girl was in tears because she lost her dog, and everyone was upset real bad,” Bunk said.

Bunk said he helped move the family’s truck away from the flames.

In less than 20 minutes, he said the house was gone.

“There was nothing left, it just consumed the whole thing,” Bunk said.

Neighbors said the family has nothing left but each other.

“You can replace everything, but you can’t replace your life,” Bunk said.

Neighbors are trying to come up with a donation plan for the family.
