Nassau County nurse arrested on child pornography charge

A Jacksonville-area nurse is now facing federal charges after investigators say they found 500 videos showing child porn on his computer.

According to investigators, 34-year-old Ronald Mabrey actually admitted to having more images and told investigators where to find them. In addition to the videos, he admitted to having a couple thousand photos, they said.

Mabrey was in federal court Thursday afternoon where he waived his right to a detention hearing. In a matter of minutes, Mabrey acknowledged family members with a wave and answered a few questions from the judge.

On Tuesday, several agencies carried out a search warrant at his home, in Callahan.

According to the Department of Justice, Mabrey's laptop "revealed images depicting the sexual abuse of a prepubescent child that had been recently downloaded."

Police say Mabrey admitted to searching for, downloading and viewing child pornography. He also reportedly admitted to police that his computer contained "a couple thousand" images and "approximately 500 videos" of child pornography.

Action News went to the home listed as Mabrey's address on the police report, and no one answered.

Mabrey's preliminary hearing is set for Friday, Aug. 8. He faces a mandatory minimum of five years in federal prision. The sentence could be as much as 20 years.
