Neighbors fed up with crime on Justina Road following shooting death of pregnant teen

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Residents who live on Justina Road told Action News Jax Tuesday that crime is out of control.

They said they were sending prayers to the loved ones of Iyana McGraw, a pregnant 19-year-old was shot and killed at University Townhome apartments Monday night, just days before she was expected to give birth.

Neighbors claim police tape, evidence markers and crime are constant in the area.

"It's scary. My children play at the basketball court right across the street from where it happened," Rhonda Outten said. "It's very scary."

When Action News Jax entered the shooting address into the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office Crime Mapping tool, it showed 26 violent crimes within a mile radius in the last month.

Shelia Odoms said someone threw a brick through her windshield within the past week.

She said innocent bystanders regularly become victims.

"It causes people to lose their lives over, you know, arguing of this and that and this. It causes innocent people to lose their life," she said.

McGraw's loved ones said it was the 19-year-old who was about to become a mom that got caught up in the violence.

"My heart goes out to the young lady that lost her life this morning. I pray that her family gets some comfort and closure," said Odoms.
