New Orleans street performer accused of 1974 murder booked into Duval County jail

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A judge ordered no bond Thursday for the New Orleans street performer known as "Uncle Louie," who is accused of killing a local father more than four decades ago.

Johnie Miller, 60, was extradited back to Jacksonville and booked on murder and armed robbery charges.

Shackles were visible around Miller’s ankles as he went before a Duval County judge.

JSO said Miller shot and killed 34-year-old Freddie Farah during a robbery at a Kings Road convenience store in 1974.

The crime forced Bobby Farah to grow up without his dad.

“This is one step closer to moving in the right direction. I believe the justice system is going to do its part,” Farah said.

Farah never lost hope the case would get solved.

“Until I was going to my grave, I was going to keep asking,” said Farah.

In December, he asked the right person. During a chance encounter in a local restaurant, Farah ran into to a cold-case detective.

“I got excited and mentioned it to him. Things kind of escalated from there,” said Farah.

Police linked Miller to the crime through fingerprint evidence.

“I want him to pay. If it’s him, I want him to pay,” Farah said.

Farah was six when his dad was killed but said he has memories of a loving father who cared for his family.

“He was always very involved in our life,” Farah said.

His case is now bringing other families hope.

Miller is due back in court Aug. 17. Farah said he plans to be at every hearing.
