New UNF PORL poll shows Deegan as frontrunner for Jacksonville Mayor

Jacksonville, Fl — A new poll from the Public Opinion Research Lab at the University of North Florida shows Democratic candidate Donna Deegan as the frontrunner in Jacksonville’s upcoming mayoral race with an over 15-point lead. The poll consisted of Duval County voters who are likely to vote in the March 21st election.

37% of pollsters say they would choose Deegan with Republican Daniel Davis coming in second with 20%.

Donna Deegan is the clear frontrunner in a crowded field, that looks poised to go until May,” says Dr. Michael Binder, PORL faculty director and UNF professor of political science. “That said, 31% of Republican and 24% of Independent voters are still undecided and that means it could still be anyone’s race.”

Pollsters were also asked about other local issues, including the most important problem facing Jacksonville. 37% said crime was the most important problem, with education, housing costs, and the economy each getting 12%. When it came to removing all Confederate monuments within the city, 45%  say they strongly or somewhat supported the idea while 51% strongly or somewhat opposed it.
