Teen arrested in mass shooting near FAMU during homecoming weekend

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Tallahassee police arrested a 15-year-old boy in connection to a mass shooting Saturday night near Bragg Memorial Stadium during Florida A&M University’s homecoming weekend.

Anthony Rivers III is facing charges in the shooting that left 12 people injured including six children. Rivers faces 11 counts of attempted second-degree murder and possession of a firearm by a delinquent, a Tallahassee police social media post Monday morning states.

Preliminary findings by the police indicate the shooting began as a physical fight between individuals who knew each other, the social media post states. Investigators said none of the victims appear to have been the intended targets.

The incident occurred around 8 p.m. near Perry and Manatee streets. A total of 12 people were injured during the shooting, including one person who sustained an ankle injury while running away from the gunfire, police said.

Officers arrived at the scene and rendered immediate aid to victims before the area was fully secured, police said.

“What should have been a weekend of celebration in our community instead became a night of fear and violence for the victims and their families,” Tallahassee Police Chief Lawrence Revell said. “While this arrest marks a significant step forward, our work is far from over. We remain committed to holding those responsible accountable and getting answers for every family impacted by this tragedy.”

Police said the department received an influx of tips and digital evidence from the public following the incident. Authorities stated that additional arrests are possible as detectives continue to review evidence and pursue leads.
