Officers end large-scale search for missing priest on Westside

DUVAL COUNTY, Fla. — Large-scale search operations for a missing priest on Jacksonville's Westside were discontinued Sunday, according to officials.

Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said they will continue to work with St. Johns County investigators in Father Rene Robert's disappearance.

Father Rene is a 71-year-old St. Johns County Catholic priest who has not been seen since Sunday, when he was scheduled to visit a patient at Orange Park Medical Center.

The prime suspect in Father Rene's disappearance, Steven Murray, was booked into the St. Johns County Jail after he was arrested in South Carolina.

Murray arrived in St. Johns County late Friday and appeared in court Saturday morning on charges of fleeing and eluding police. He is being held with no bond.

JSO said the multi-jurisdictional investigation and efforts to find him will continue until a resolution has been found.

Anyone with information about Father Rene's whereabouts is asked to call the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office 904-630-0500 or email us at JSOCrimeTips@jaxsheriff.org.
