Man dies after losing consciousness in water at Mickler's Landing

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. — An approximately 60-year-old man is dead after losing consciousness in water Saturday afternoon.

St. Johns County Fire & Rescue marine officials responded to reports of an unresponsive man at Mickler's Landing.

Grigoriy Kireev was swimming with his wife, Svetlana Kireeva when he became short of breath.

Kireev began to swim back to shore and lost consciousness. He was seen face down in the water.

Kireev was pulled out to sea by the current.

A rescue swimmer reached Kireev about 100-150 yards from the shore.

The rescue swimmer and two other responders brought him back to shore.

Officials say Kireev did not have a pulse and was not breathing when marine rescue pulled him to shore.

He was taken to Baptist Medical Center Beaches in critical condition.
