Orange Park school rebranding days after parents were told they were being evicted

A local school with a history of problems said Monday it will stay open and rebrand itself next year.

An Action News Jax investigation uncovered court documents showing the school was being forced out for not paying rent.

On Monday students were back at Orange Park Performing Arts Academy just days after parents said they were called to pick up their children early because the school was being evicted.

The complaints said the school hadn’t paid their rent since November.

Founder Dr. Alesia Burse said Monday the building’s owner is working with them on financial issues.

According to Burse, the school will not only stay open, it will transition to a STREAM school, focusing on science, technology, religion, engineering, arts and math.

Two years ago, Action News Jax reported that the state ordered the charter school to close for failing grades. It reopened months later as a private school.

Burse said they’re revamping the curriculum so it’s more effective for children of the future.

Action News Jax reached out to the building’s owner to confirm whether or not they’re working with the academy on rent issues. We have not heard back.
