Parents of toddler killed in gator attack at Disney ask for privacy

ORLANDO,Fla. — Parents of the toddler snatched by an alligator at a Disney World resort asked for privacy in a statement Saturday morning.

The statement from the child's father, Matt Graves, reads:

“Melissa and I continue to deal with the loss of our beloved boy, Lane, and are overwhelmed with the support and love we have received from family and friends in our community as well as from around the country. We understand the public’s interest, but as we move forward this weekend, we ask for and appreciate the privacy we need to lay our son to rest. Neither Melissa, myself or anyone from our family will be speaking publicly; we simply cannot at this time.”

The body of two year-old Lane Graves was recovered Wednesday afternoon. An autopsy revealed that his death was caused by drowning and traumatic injury.

He was reportedly wading in about a foot of water along the shore of Disney's Grand Floridian Resort when the alligator snatched him.

New signs have appeared warning of alligators and snakes in the area and a fence has now been erected around the man-made Seven Seas Lagoon

The Lane family was visiting from Nebraska.

Authorities said the father and mother both tried to wrestle the child from the gator, but it was too late.
