JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The youngsters at the Fort Caroline Athletic Association labored hard for the baseball championships they have earned through the years.
The players and coaches are now upset about desecration they found on Labor Day.
“I think it’s terrible that it happened,” said a supporter of the F.C.A.A.
It appears someone broke into the building and raided a trophy case then threw the trophies all over the complex.
That’s how coaches and players found the field area Monday morning.
“When you win a trophy, that’s pride. So I don’t understand that kids broke in and threw trophies on the field,” said Tommy Ben, a father.
Coaches say they have no idea who did it. Adults believe it was likely kids.
“It could’ve been done by kids on a dare initiation. But it’s not baseball kids,” Ben said.
With all the effort players put in to win these trophies, he and others find it hard to believe it would be anyone connected to their leagues.
“Baseball kids wouldn’t tear up trophies. They have pride. That pride of earning a trophy,” Ben said.
Action News has a pending request for more information on the apparent vandalism.
