Patients left with questions after Medi M.D. raid in St. Johns County

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The doors are locked at Medi M.D. due to a raid on Thursday. Action News was on the scene as agents pulled out boxes of evidence. Now we're learning more about the man behind the business.

When state agents showed up to the Palencia Commons shopping plaza, they moved quickly. They roped off the area, took notes and filled cars with files.

Medi M.D.'s other location, near County Road 312, was also raided.

"Finding out someone a block from me was doing something illegal. I'm really shocked," said resident Paul Shala.

According to the search warrant, agents were looking for medical files, computer software and Medicaid payment records. The owner of the clinics is listed as Bill McClure, a St. Johns County commissioner for District 3.

Action News went to his home, where no one answered.

We did find a picture of McClure with Gov. Rick Scott and learned he touts himself as a "working class politician who understands the value of a dollar."

Some patients don't care about that and simply wonder what they'll do next.

"There's no place else on Medicare. Where else am I going to go in St. Johns County?" said patient Cindy Netherclift.

It's a valid question no one can answer right now.

Neither the State Attorney General's Office or St. Johns County is elaborating on the raid.

Shala said his neighborhood has no place for wrongdoing.

"Somebody need to look into these kinds of things a little more often," he said.

According to a sign on the door, the office will reopen on Monday.

In the wake of the raids, the county issued the following statement: “St. Johns County had no prior knowledge of this ongoing investigation, and has not been contacted by the Attorney General’s office related to this matter.”
