Paxon student arrested at school, charged with sexual battery

An 18-year-old Paxon High School student accused of sexual battery was arrested at school Wednesday.

Brandon Guinto faces serious charges, including sexual battery, molesting and fondling with a minor.

“This is a second-degree felony ... if upon conviction, he could face anywhere from 15-25 years in prison,” said Action News Jax crime and safety expert Ken Jefferson.

According to a police report, investigators are also looking at text messages sent on from 11 p.m.-midnight Feb. 24.

“It could have been some sexting, the exchange of nude photographs, between him and the victim, or other things,” Jefferson said.

Jefferson said sexting or sending nude images via text messages is becoming more popular with teens, but few understand the consequences.

“It’s unlawful for you to take a nude photograph of yourself, or exchange a nude photograph of yourself. If you receive one, you can’t be charged, but if you forward that, now you’re guilty of the same thing,” Jefferson said.

Action News Jax did a search on Duval County Court records and found the victim’s family filed a sexual violence injunction against Guinto on March 24.

There is a hearing scheduled next week for these charges. He’s facing a $180,000 bond.
