At least 4 killed in plane crash on Atlanta highway

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — A small plane has crashed near DeKalb–Peachtree Airport in Atlanta Friday morning.

The plane crashed onto Interstate 285 at Peachtree Industrial Boulevard. Traffic is shut down in both direction, and may reportedly be closed for at least 8 hours.

Authorities say 4 people have died in the crash. The medical examiner has been called to the scene. 

WSB-TV's Mark Winne says a source told him the pilot reported an issue on take off and said "hey, we're going down."

The FAA tells WSB-TV it was a Piper PA-32 aircraft that went down after departing from Runway 3Right DeKalb-Peachtree Airport.

Captain Eric Jackson with DeKalb County fire says the plane nearly hit two vehicles before crashing.

The FAA is on the ground and is beginning their investigation.
