Police investigating possible 'threat of violence' found at Palatka High School

Officers are investigating a possible threat of violence found on a piece of paper at a Putnam County school.

Deputies said a message that could be interpreted as a threat of violence to occur on Monday was found at Palatka High School on Friday.

Exercising an abundance of caution, the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office and Putnam County School District are treating the message as a threat, officials said.

No specific manner of carrying out the possible threat was mentioned, deputies said.

Officials said Sheriff Gator DeLoach and Superintendent Rick Surrency are in communication over the weekend and are working to coordinate efforts to ensure the safety of the students and staff of Palatka High School.

Parents, students and staff will notice an increased law enforcement presence at PHS on Monday, officials said.
