JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — At 3:15 p.m. on Wed., Jul. 5, detectives with the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office were conducting a follow-up investigation on a missing person.
While searching a home near 5300 Colonial Ave., detectives discovered human remains in an advanced stage of decomposition.
When JSO was asked where the remains were found a spokesperson answered, “They were actually on the porch -- kinda in-between (the front of the house).”
One person was detained for questioning from the home.
Police said this is being listed as an undetermined death until autopsy results come back from the medical examiner’s office.
Because the body is so decomposed, police can’t tell if the remains are related to the missing person’s case detectives were following up on.
“Because of the advanced state of decomposition -- we don’t have that information that was shared with the medical examiner’s office, which included tattoos and other items that were on that body, so they will be able to match it up if it is indeed the individual related to this case,” JSO Seargant Highfill said.
JSO confirmed that the missing person they were looking for was known to visit the home. They also said that the person detained did live at that same home.
