GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Two people are injured and a suspect is dead of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound in a shooting that took place Wednesday afternoon at the Spanish Trace apartment complex.

Police responded to the apartment complex just after 3 p.m. to investigate an ongoing disturbance over noise when a 21-year-old female and a 24-year-old male came running out of one of the apartments, according to a release from the Gainesville Police Department.

An officer took the victims to the area near Oaks Pawn to get them to safety while they were being treated for their injuries. While the officer was providing cover for the victims, another gunshot could be heard.

SWAT, K-9 and negotiation officers surrounded the apartment complex and were able to make their way in around 6:50 p.m., when they found Lorenzo Fitzpatrick, 48, dead of an apparent gunshot wound.

Additional details in the investigation will be released as they become available.
