Poppy’s Italiano server Elise Mills is ready for what’s to come from The Players Championship tournament this week.
“It’s just been very busy,” Mills said.
The tournament hasn’t even started yet and she’s seen business pick up.
She says her restaurant has seen the crowds this tournament brings in and she got to experience it for the first time last year.
“It was a lot of energy a lot of fun we were busy every single night,” Mills said.
A spokesperson from The Players Championships says last year 191,000 people attended the tournament, which spanned six days.
Bringing an estimated $151 million into the Northeast Florida area.
Mills says they expect just as many people, if not more, this year and her restaurant had to prepare for this event weeks ago.
“You want to make sure your inventory is all accounted for, and you’re prepped for the week. It’s important a couple weeks ahead of time to make sure you have wine, beer, ingredients, etc,” Mills said.
The St. Augustine Ponte Vedra and Beaches Visitors Convention Bureau says this could be a record-breaking year.
They say hotels are full and even vacation rental properties are booked up.
