The Putnam County Sherriff’s Office put a statement out on Facebook regarding their preparations for the planned rallies in Palatka this Saturday:
August 6, 2020 - In preparation for Saturday’s rallies in Palatka, we wanted to reassure our community we are working to ensure safe events for both groups as well as our residents. We are expecting a larger turnout than the rally held in June and want residents to be prepared for increased traffic in areas from Crill Avenue and Moseley Avenue through the downtown Palatka area, especially the courthouse and riverfront. Please allow for extra time to get to your destinations if traveling, especially in the early afternoon hours. We are working with law enforcement partners, including the Palatka Police Department and are hoping both groups will take their first amendment right to peacefully protest. Our mission continues to focus on protecting our residents, businesses and community. “Violence isn’t welcomed and property destruction isn’t welcomed,” Sheriff H.D. ‘Gator’ DeLoach said “If any of those two occur, we are going to take action.”
