Regency Square Mall bringing food truck vendors indoors

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Regency Square Mall is trying to attract new life to empty booths and storefronts.

Management now believes bringing food truck vendors indoors could be key to the mall’s comeback.

Mr. Potato Spread is the first food truck to spread to a booth at the Regency Square Mall food court.

“We knew that if we were here and made ourselves available after hours and in the evening when people get off of work, rather than them having to chase the food truck around town, that would make it easier for customers to be able to get our food,” said Mr. Potato Spread co-owner Lakita Spann.

Regency Square Mall’s leasing agent Matt Demir told Action News Jax that Funnel Cake Queen will be the next food truck to move in.

“I think it’s a good start to bring the mall back,” said Paul Watford, eating a chicken and ranch-smothered potato in the food court. “Arlington is a big community, you know? And driving all the way to the Town Center is cool, but I would like to come right here, you know, like it used to be.”

Demir said he’s talking to the arts community about filling empty storefronts with workshops for artists, and displaying their work around the mall.

Demir said he’s also in talks with a fitness group.
