A registered sex offender from a local hotel resigned an hour after Action News questioned management about his access to children and the terms of his employment.
Vice president and general manager of the Ramada in Mandarin, Fred Pozin, told Action News he was unaware former manager of housekeeping Mark Dimaggio was a registered sex offender until Action News informed him of Dimaggio's past.
Pozin said Dimaggio worked for the hotel for the last five to six years.
Pozin said before submitting his resignation today, Dimaggio admitted that he was a sex offender and that he served two years in prison for possession of child porn.
"He had been a great employee," Pozin said. "He said he didn't want to tarnish the hotel's reputation."
Pozin said Dimaggio did have access to hotel keys but said they are all electronic and can be audited, meaning they can track any time someone uses a key to enter a room.
Pozin said they never got any complaints or had any reason to suspect Dimaggio misused any keys or did anything wrong.
A concerned viewer told Action News there were worries over Dimaggio working near children at the hotel.
Action News tried getting comment from Dimaggio, but when Action News went to the address listed on the sex offender registry, a different person answered the door and declined to comment.
