Phone outage in parts of St. Johns County resolved

Hastings, Florida

Update (5:33 p.m.): The St. Johns County Office said that Windstream telephone service is now operational in Hastings.

Some St. Johns residents were unable to call 911 on Thursday because of a phone outage.

Windstream customers in Hastings, Elkton and Flagler Estates experienced the outage after a telephone fiber cable owned by Windstream Telephone Service was cut in Hastings, the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office said.

‘Historic' skeletons found under Florida shop during repairs

Affected Windstream customers are not able to call 911 or call outside their immediate areas. Affected customers can make call only from customer to customer within a small area of Hastings, officials said.

The Sheriff’s Office and St. Johns County Fire and Rescue have sent dispatchers to St. Johns Fire Station 8  to answer calls affected by the outage.

The dispatchers then relay those calls to the Sheriff’s Office or Fire and Rescue for dispatch.

The Sheriff's Office recommends that affected residents call Station 8 at (904)-692-3303 to reach the Sheriff’s Office and Fire Rescue.

Officials said they are unsure how long the repairs will take, but contractors are making repairs.
