The Restaurant Report checks out eateries in Orange Park

ORANGE PARK, Fla. — Action News visited Akaya Sushi in Orange Park in the Restaurant Report.  Health inspectors temporarily shut down the eatery for one day after finding dozens of live roaches, produce with a mold-like growth and a blackish-green substance in the ice machine.

An employee got the manager on the phone to explain what they’re doing to prevent roaches.

"We do normally, like, twice a month, to have the pest control come here for service, you know?” said the manager.

At El Apache in Orange Park, restaurant inspectors found live flies in the kitchen, produce with a mold-like growth and an employee touching ready to eat food with bare hands.

In the newest section of St. Johns Town Center Mall, health inspectors went to Nordstrom Bazille. The inspectors wrote violations for employees failing to wash hands before working with food, employees touching ready to eat food with bare hands and utensils on the cook line in dirty water.
