HOLLISTER, Fla. — A local organization that works to save dogs and cats from kill shelters is one of five finalists in an Animal Planet contest to win $180,000 toward having its facility renovated.
S.A.F.E. (Saving Animals From Euthanasia) Pet Rescue, Inc. acquired a 10-acre property in Putnam County that was formerly home to the Northeast Florida Humane Society and it is in need of renovation, according to the entry video on the Pet Nation Renovation contest page.
According to the Pet Nation Renovation page, S.A.F.E.'s new building is in need of "a complete overhaul: flooring, windows, kennels, heat and air-conditioning, outdoor runs, fencing repairs and outdoor play areas."
S.A.F.E., according to its contest entry video, "has saved almost 8,000 lives since 2008 with the help of 17 staff members and well over 100 volunteers."
Right now, S.A.F.E.'s main headquarters is in St. Augustine Beach. The goal is to convert the Putnam County grounds into the main intake facility before pets are brought to the St. Augustine Beach facility.
Voting closes Monday night at 11:59 p.m. To vote for S.A.F.E. in the Pet Nation Renovation contest, click here. You can also watch S.A.F.E.'s entry video below:
