Search expands for missing pregnant teen, uncle arrested on unrelated charges

Right now, the uncle of a pregnant teen who has been missing for three weeks is behind bars, charged with sexual battery.
Police say Johnathan Quiles’ arrest is not connected to the disappearance of 16-year-old Iyana Sawyer, but they won’t confirm or deny anyone’s alleged involvement in the missing person’s case.
Sawyer is five months pregnant, and her aunt, Paula Dixon, said it’s not like her to run away.
“We are a very close-knit family,” Dixon said.  “We know where everyone is at all times, so if she’s not home, she’s typically with family.”

Police in Columbus, Georgia are now involved in the investigation into Sawyer’s disappearance.
According to a release by investigators there, they believe she could be in Columbus with extended family.
Tuesday, Sawyer’s uncle by marriage, was arrested at the Ace Pick-A-Part on North Main Street where he works.
JSO said Quiles was wanted for a sexual battery that occurred at a home on 16th Street East in December of 2017.
When Action News Jax asked if Quiles is a person of interest or suspect in the case, JSO said, “The investigation is active and ongoing.  As in any active case, we do not deny or confirm any individual’s involvement.”
