Silver Airways, the Florida-based airline that ran routes out of Jacksonville International Airport, confirmed Wednesday that they were suspending service at JIA "for the time being" in early November.

The airline mainly flies in Florida and also operates many flights to the Bahamas. Many passengers in Jacksonville used the airline for short flights to the Bahamas.

The airline used turboprop airplanes for the short hops to regional destinations like Nassau, Pensacola, Ft. Myers and Ft. Lauderdale.

"Unfortunately, certain flights in Jacksonville are not operating at an adequate level in current market conditions," Silver Airways said in a statement. "We will continue to evaluate and keep an eye on Jacksonville for possible opportunities to resume service in the future.

"We truly appreciate our valued customers in the Jacksonville area, including the men and women of the military, and thank our hardworking team members. Jacksonville is an amazing city and we look forward to the possibility of returning to serve you in the future."
