St. Augustine homeowners can get a free tree through the city’s Tree Canopy Enhancement Program

Homeowners in City limits invited to apply starting Thursday, June 1.

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. — Homeowners within the city limits of St. Augustine are invited to apply for a free tree starting Thursday, June 1.

It’s part of the city’s third annual Tree Canopy Enhancement Program, which gives homeowners a free tree to be planted either on private property or on the right-of-way adjacent to their property.

Applications will be accepted from June 1 through Aug. 31, or until supplies last. As part of the application process, residents will be able to verify the location of the property address as being within the City limits.

Homeowners can choose from the following trees:

  • Live Oak
  • Red Cedar
  • East Palatka Holly
  • Sand Live Oak
  • Redbud
  • Yaupon Holly
  • Simpson’s Stopper
  • Winged Elm

Staff from the city will review each request and make sure that the tree fits the space. Applications will be selected in September and the trees will be planted December through February.

After a tree is planted, it is the responsibility of the property owner to care for and maintain the tree.
