ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. — A child who was allegedly injured and bedridden was found surrounded by their feces and urine in their bed in a home on Usina Road Extension in St. Augustine, the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office said on Thursday.
SJCSO responded to the home along with St. Johns County Fire Rescue in reference to an injured child. When they arrived, they found the child, who was taken to the hospital due to their condition and lack of medical treatment.
After obtaining a search warrant for the home, the sheriff’s office gathered evidence and the special victims and forensics units also responded.
The investigation led to the arrests of Darcy Sargent and Joseph Sargent. They are charged with child neglect with great bodily harm.
The Department of Children and Families has been notified and a safety plan and placement has been made, SJCSO says.
The investigation is ongoing.
This is a developing story that will be updated once more information becomes available.
