ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. — An R.J. Murray Middle School teacher is making a difference in a St. Augustine community.
Brennan Gagnon, a homeowner, and teacher is building an 11-foot-tall and 24-foot-wide vertical skate ramp in his own backyard.
“I just always thought, man, if I could own a home I’d love to build a ramp,” Brennan Gagnon said. “And not only have it available for my friends, but also use it as an outreach for kids.”
As a sixth-grade math teacher, he knows firsthand that students sometimes need an extra hand, both in the classroom and outside of it.
“I think there’s a lot of negative things out there that kids can run into,” Gagnon said. “They [students] could stray away, so having something positive like this to focus energy in on, in a great community, I just think that’s a great thing.”
Gagnon raised over $12,000 to build the new ramp for kids in his community. He’s hoping to raise more funds so he can provide free equipment for kids too. If you would like to donate, click HERE.
The ramp will be located on Tocoi Road in West St. Augustine.
This isn’t your average “skate park.” In fact, it’s actually a local teacher’s backyard.
