Starke Elementary back in session after toxic mold cleaning

Starke elementary school reopens after mold shut it down

STARKE, Fla. — Six months after needing renovations due to mold growing inside the facility, students and teachers are back at Starke Elementary School, where classes resumed Tuesday.

The Bradford County School Board says it spent roughy $2 million dollars restoring the school after finding out its poor condition near the end of the summer in 2013.

A contractor came in and assessed the school's mold situation. Action News obtained the Clearance Certificate from that
contractor. In it, Air Intellect found that Starke had insufficient dehumidification of outdoor air for ventilation and adequate building pressurization. Also, air leaks allowed hot, humid air inside the school during long portions of the year.

Students had to be moved to multiple other schools in the county while the district worked to remove the mold.

Action News is getting a look inside Starke Elementary today and will bring you reports on the renovations on Action News throughout the day.
