Storm cleanup, tree removal continues in Arlington

Cleaning up after Monday's storm in the Arlington area.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Cleanup is now in full swing in one Arlington neighborhood where the most powerful part of the storm roared through.

Now that temperatures are beginning to plunge, many are figuring out ways to stay warm.

Some homes still have holes in their roofs, like one on Weller Avenue. Thankfully, it fell over the garage without impacting the main part of the house.

Homeowners on Tuesday were working to get rid of debris, cutting down branches that were left dangling by the storm.

"These two beautiful live hickories, there really was no reason for them to fall over because they weren't dead," said homeowner Rebecca Grenet.

But the storm was so intense, it snapped the trees like twigs.

"Our prayers were in fact answered because they all fell forward," Grenet said.

Her next door neighbor, Patrick Golonka, wasn't so lucky.

A tree slammed on their garage. With no A/C, he says he's thankful to have a fireplace.

And that's not the only thing he's thankful for. He said just last week, he cut down several trees around his property.

"Rotten. There were six, seven trees and they were overgrown," Golonka said.

Jacksonville's Department of Public Works said it is not aware of any trees that were marked for removal that came down yesterday, but they say will drive through the area looking for defects in the trees.
