Student arrested after being accused of recording threatening rap song against another student

A St. Johns County student was arrested and accused of making threats to kill another classmate and put him in a body bag.

That Nease High School student may also be facing disciplinary action at school.

The 17-year-old is accused of recording a threatening rap song about his intent to kill another student at the school.

Parents said they think the internet is making it easier for kids to make threats.

“Whether it happens in school, it could happen in the cyber world easily,” parent Claudia McElroy said.

In this case, the victim called deputies after hearing the song and told deputies he was in fear of his life and his family’s lives.

The song was posted to a music website, as well as social media.
It talks about bringing a gun into the victim's home and putting the teen in a body bag.

“You try to teach your kids the best you can to stay safe and hope they do,” parent Treve Kinsey said.

The song also talks about the suspect being on probation for simple battery.

Action News Jax found out the 17-year-old, whom we are not naming because of his age, is on probation for punching the victim back in October. The previous charge was a misdemeanor, but this time, the suspect was arrested for intimidating a victim, which is a felony.

The school district sent Action News Jax the following statement:
"We were made aware of this arrest and though it was an off campus incident we are taking action in accordance with our student code of conduct."

According to the code of conduct, a student may be suspended from all classes when charged with a felony.

“In today’s age, where kids are shooting kids, it’s probably not a bad idea,” Kinsey said.

A spokesperson for the district said they also had one person arrested for a school-related incident this year.

Action News Jax also reported on school threat arrests in Nassau County and Duval County so far this school year.

“I think a lot of parents need to just open up and have more communication with children,” McElroy said.
